The pressurized filter creates artificial back pressure while brewing, making it easier to pull crema rich shots of espresso, even with coffee that isn't ground quite as finely or quite as fresh. The commercial style filter challenges you to perfect your technique to pull better shots. Factors like grind fineness and proper tamping will ultimately determine whether you pass or fail, and the bottomless spout makes it easier to identify unevenness in your extraction. For frothing milk the Cafe Pro is equipped with a commercial style steam wand, unlike a number of machines in the same price range. Commercial style wands require a bit of patience to master, but are capable of producing superior quality micro foam for specialty drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.
